Radial Shock Wave Therapy

About this Service

Radial Shockwave Therapy is a very specific treatment for the pain and limited function related especially to foot and ankle pathologies. It can be used for other conditions but it has been primarily researched for the impairments related to achilles pain, heel pain, plantar fasciitis pain, and other lower extremity dysfunctions.

Shockwave therapy is unique in that it is not electric, ultrasonic, or light therapy based. It utilizes a vibration administered by a handheld device that reduces the firing of interneurons that create the sensation of pain. The goal of this therapy along with other interventions such as ASTYM, footwear, taping, eccentric tendon and muscle training, stretching, strength training and activity modification is to enable the individual to return to regular activities with less pain. It is used for chronic conditions, however, it is likely the treatment for these cases can take longer.
